There are many events that can be experienced as traumatic. Examples of trauma include a serious auto accident, a major surgery or life-threatening illness, a serious injury, domestic violence, community violence, or a natural disaster. A traumatic experience can also be something that you did not directly witness, such as losing a loved one in an unexpected or violent way. In trauma, people sometimes have thoughts and feelings that surprise them, and they wonder “is this normal?” or “should I seek help?” If you’re unsure, please contact CompEAP for assistance.
