If your partner, spouse, parent, sibling, or roommate has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), you may find that it impacts your relationship, and that sharing a living space can be challenging. This occurs because adults with ADHD have challenges in the areas of time management, emotion regulation, organization, attention, hyperfocus, and/or other areas, too. While these present difficulties for the person who has ADHD, they also impact other household members.
If someone you care about has been diagnosed with ADHD, your employee assistance program is here to help. COMPEAP’s Licensed Counselors can assist you in the following ways:
- Offer emotional support
- Suggest educational resources (e.g., books, articles, and websites) written by ADHD experts and by those who experience ADHD
- Provide a counseling referral if interested in family counseling or couples counseling
- Offer coaching/guidance on how to speak with your household member about a particular challenge(s)
